How to make sure you take care of yourself and feel your best during the holiday season.
We’re entering one of the busier times of the year and that calls for some much deserved self-care. The holidays, for many, can be a stressful time of year. With parties, hosting family and friends, possibly running kids around, school and work commitments, add in lots of preparation to be done for the end of the year; the list never ends! We hope that you can take some time for yourself and prioritize self care for the holidays this year, so that you can show up as your best self!
Remember, self care for the holidays doesn’t have to mean bubble baths and quiet alone time. It can be incorporated into many pockets of your life and doesn’t have to take up lots of your time!
Let’s break down our list of ways you can practice self care this December.
1. Stick To Your Routine As Best You Can
We all know setting up your ideal routine can take time and discipline. The ideal routine doesn’t happen overnight. During the holidays it can be nice to let go of your routine as you enjoy time with friends and family, which is wonderful and 100% necessary. But remember to be mindful of your daily habits and continuing to incorporate some of your usual routines as you take a break from your typical day to day. Following some sort of structure will make it easier to get back into the swing of things in the new year. We worked hard this year to build a routine we love, let’s not fall out of all our habits that quickly!
2. Keep Nutrition In Mind At Holiday Meals
Nutrition is a key player in determining how you feel in your body. We love all the sweets and comfort food during the holidays, trust us! Indulging is what makes the holidays so yummy, homemade baked good are my personal favourite. (Cornelia here).
But just because we love sweets, doesn’t mean we have to forego all of our nutrition that we work hard all year to keep up. Enjoy the treats, eat whatever makes you happy! If you can keep up with your greens and lots of water, even better. Try to incorporate your usual nutrition in with the treats, it’ll help you feel better and get back on track when the holidays are over.

3. Try To Stay Active
Staying active doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym for your usual routine. In fact, taking some time for your body to rest is a positive thing once in a while. Staying active can mean going for long walks, or doing a gentle yoga session. Maybe even taking a workout class with a friend! But there’s no need to put lots of pressure on yourself, just make it fun! Movement will help you stay energized and keep your immunity strong during this busy time of year.

4. Take Some Time For Yourself
Taking some quiet alone time is so key at this time of year, to keep our social batteries charged and have us feel our best! Whether your alone time is in the morning with a cup of coffee and a journal. Or possibly you enjoy some time before bed with a good book.
Alone time self care can also mean enjoying a relaxing bath or going on a long walk. Whatever makes you happy is a great way to keep yourself feeling your best so you can be present for others in a more full way.
5. Unplug and enjoy time with family and, or friends. Work can wait.
Unplug, unplug, unplug! We spend so much of our time in front of a screen and focused on work. No matter what you do for a living, try to take a step back during the holidays. Spending time with your family, friends or even some quiet alone time, is far more productive for your health and will allow you to reset before the new year begins. I can personally speak to this point, as someone who is quite often “plugged in”, there is nothing I want more than to take a step back from the to do list of life and to spend some time reflecting and relaxing to recharge my batteries.
