Monthly Reset // How To Properly Reset For a New Month

We absolutely love a routine!

The start of a new month is a chance to start fresh with your goals and intentions for the year. Not every reset needs to happen at the start of a new season or at the beginning of a calendar year. If you’re been with us for a while, you’ll know we love a good quarterly reset. But we also love to regroup and realign at the beginning of every month. A monthly reset is a perfect way to pick up the pieces, get organized, and head into the month feeling refreshed.

What’s a Monthly Reset Routine?

Think of a monthly reset as the Sunday reset routine’s more productive older sister. A Sunday reset helps you recenter and realign for the week, laundry, grocery runs, meal prep, the usual. A monthly reset, on the other hand, zooms out. It’s about checking in with your goals, organizing your space and schedule, and setting the tone for the next four weeks so you feel grounded and motivated.

It’s so easy to get caught up in day-to-day life that we rarely pause to reflect or regroup. Dedicating even one day (or a few small pockets of time) to reset gives you the space to breathe, get organized, and step into a new month with clarity and intention. Here’s how we reset at the start of every month. And don’t worry, it’s not overwhelming. Just a small batch of simple steps truly helps us go into a new month, feeling more organized and ready to take on what’s ahead!

1. Calendar Review

A calendar review is a simple task that will help you setup your month with a clear outlook on what’s to come. I personally love to time block my weeks, putting in scheduled times to accomplish the tasks I need to get done. If that style of scheduling isn’t for you, that’s ok! You can also just do a wide overview of what your month looks like.

Start with your appointments, social plans, any additional work that needs to get done, map it out in your calendar. Maybe you work a 9-5, that’ll take up most of your days. What else needs to be accounted for in a month? I like to keep a running to-do list in my Notion, which gets transferred into my calendar when I schedule in the time for it. It’s so much less overwhelming when we know what’s to come in the month and we have a solid plan to get things done. Perhaps you also want to revise your schedule from the month before. What’s working and what isn’t? A calendar review just brings more attention onto our work flow, which keeps us more organized in the end.

    2. Financial Reset

We’re big advocates for tracking your finances. Monthly budgeting is a habit we’ve cultivated over the years and it’s single handedly the most important tool if you’re looking to pay off debt or save money. Truthfully, we keep tabs on our finances on a weekly basis, so that at the end of the month, we have a clear picture as to what the month looked like. A financial reset will help you stay aligned with your financial goals and will take away some of the stress that money can bring on. Trust us on this one, staying in the dark on your finances will only cause stress down the line. Knowledge is power and will lead to more peace! 🙂

    3. Digital Cleanup

Who else’s downloads folder looks like a bomb went off? We’ve been there! But something that has truly helped us in keeping our computer files more organized, is tackling the organization on a monthly basis. Instead of just trying to sort through files twice a year, make it apart of your monthly routine. Can you delete any downloads you may not need? Are there photos that can be filed away into a hard drive? Just take 30 minutes to clean off your computer and trust us, you’ll feel so much lighter.

    4. Monthly Intentions

Another monthly habit you’ll hear us talking about constantly is monthly intentions. We’ve shared a lot about this on our blog! Intentions are different from goals. You don’t need to set this grand goals every month, that’s what quarterly goals are for 😉

Instead, take some time for yourself at the end of every month and get creative! Cozy up with your journal and set some intentions for the month ahead. Perhaps you want to walk more often, or spend more time with your friends. Maybe you want to start a new program at the gym or try meditating a few times a week. What are some intentions you can set to make your life, feel more balanced? These don’t have to be anything extreme, they’re just a way to check-in with yourself and listen to your needs.

    5. House Reset

A monthly house reset is essential for feeling settled and refreshed in your space. Take an hour or two, to do a deep clean, clean out your closet, perhaps organize your bathroom cupboard that has been over flowing. Just prioritizing a bit of time to get our space organized and clean, will give you a refreshed feeling as you head into a new month. We love a good GYST day!

That sums up our monthly reset routine. Just little ways that you can prioritize self care, and balance in your everyday life. Setting routines and habits that we look to every month, brings more organization and peace to our lives.
