It’s important to keep your skin hydrated, and we’ll tell you how! Keep on reading to find out our winter skincare routine and the products we are loving to support our skin.

Here are 5 ways on how to keep skin hydrated, all year long!

1. Oil is your friend

Do NOT shy away from oil. I repeat, oil is your friend. If you want glow-ey and hydrated skin, you’ll want to find yourself a quality face oil. Finding the right face oil has so many benefits to your skin. It calms redness, locks in moisture and can heal many skin concerns. If you’re a millennial like us, you probably grew up thinking that you needed to strip the skin to see any benefit. Well this couldn’t be further from the truth! In fact, moisturizing your skin properly will heal your skin and often clear up any unwanted skin concerns. I believe oil is the thing that helped heal my acne scarring and now I barely get any acne!

2. Drink Lots of Water

Water is key to so many aspects of good health. Especially your skin! We are made up of 60% water, so why wouldn’t your skin thrive on lots of H20? Aim to drink at least 2L of water a day. If you can get up to 3-4L, that’s even better! Your skin and your overall well-being, will thank you!

3. Take your Skincare Seriously

I’m sure you’ve heard it before, wash your makeup off at night and do your skincare before bed. But really, do it. I can’t remember the last time I went to bed without washing my face. Prepping my skin for the night is a non-negotiable in my books. If you can commit to a routine for better skin, you’ll thank yourself down the line. And it doesn’t need to be complicated. A good cleanse and a solid moisturizer are the two things you really need.

4. Keep SPF Top Priority

Sun damage is one of the worst things you can do to your skin. Just because it’s winter, doesn’t mean you don’t need to protect your skin. In fact, sun rays beaming off of the snow, can be really potent on your skin! So if you’re going outside this winter for more than an hour at a time, we do recommend you put on some SPF for some added protection. We personally really like the Supergoop! sunscreen. Or the COOLA face sunscreen is lovely too!

5. Don’t Overcomplicate Things

Skincare doesn’t have to be super complicated. As long as you are cleansing your skin at the end of the day, and adding some moisture into your routine, that’s what matters most. All of these additional steps are great, but not necessary. We definitely live in a world where people push their 9 step skincare routines, and truly, it’s a bit much. Don’t just follow the trends, find what works best for your skin. And if you’re not sure, seeing a facialist who is experienced in the world of skincare and can determine your skin type, will make a great difference.

Cornelia’s Routine:

  • Cleanse: I’ve been cleansing with the Monastery Rose Cleansing Oil. It’s a gentle oil cleanser that is made up of rose and hazelnut oil. It’s incredibly moisturizing, takes off my makeup and feels like gold on my skin!
  • Miceller Water: The Bio-Effect Micellar Cleansing Water is one of the best products I’ve ever used in my life. The first time I tried it, I was in shock with how much excess product came off my skin, even after cleansing. Micellar water is a great addition to your routine, for that deep clean, while still keeping moisture in your skin and your PH balanced.
  • Serum: I’ve been using the REN Everhydrate Marine Moisture Restore Serum. It’s a lovely foundation on the skin before adding cream or oil.
  • Moisturize: I have two different moisturizing routines. In the AM, I like to use the REN Everhydrate Marine Moisture Cream. Whereas at night, I use the REN Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm and top the skin with the REN Evercalm Barrier Support Elixir.
  • 3x/Week: I will use a retinol through the winter, but only a few times a week. I have the Alumier Retinol, which I did purchase through a medical grade skincare clinic when I had my chemical peels done. Totally up to you on which one you use. Just know that retinol is quite drying, so moisturize even more when you’re using it and make sure to wear SPF!
