Easy Guacamole Recipe

Hello May, the month of cinco de mayo! We thought, what a better recipe to start off the month than a delicious and easy guacamole recipe. We LOVE avocado, and maybe even love guacamole more! 🙂

Guacamole can truly compliment so many dishes. We personally love to snack on some fresh corn chips with guacamole, but you can also add it to your breakfast as a healthy side, as a dip for your veggies, or to your favourite sandwich recipe. There are lots of ways to pair guacamole with your meals. Avocados are full of healthy fats, fibre, and potassium, to name a few benefits.

“When it comes to crowd-raving guacamole the key is to not get too fancy. Guacamole is meant to be easy to make and delicious.”

PICK RIPE AVOCADOS FOR THE BEST GUACAMOLE

The best guacamole starts with the freshest ingredients. Look for avocados that are ripe, but firm. You definitely don’t want soft and mushy avocados.

So how do you pick good, ripe avocados? First, find avocados that still have the stem attached. If the stem has been removed in the store, it’s more likely to have brown spots on the inside. Then, gently press on one end. It should be firm, but have a slight give to it.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR GUACAMOLE GREEN:

  • Place your leftover guacamole in a storage container and pat it down firmly with a spoon so it’s nice and flat on top.
  • Add about 1/2 inch of water on top (I use cold water).
  • Place the lid on the storage container and store it in the fridge. That’s it!
  • When you want to enjoy the guacamole, drain the water off the top, give it a stir and you’re good to go.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium ripe avocados
  • 1 roma tomato finely diced
  • 1/2 red onion finely diced
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tsp taco seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp salt plus more to taste

Instructions

  • Cut each avocado in half lengthwise by cutting into the pit, then rotating the avocado around the knife. One side will have the pit. To remove it, you can carefully tap your knife against the pit and twist to dislodge it, or you can cut the avocado into quarters and remove the pit with your fingers or a spoon.
  • Use a spoon to scoop the flesh of each avocado into a large bowl.
  • Use a fork to partially mash and mix the avocados until they are partially broken down. Stop just before you reach your desired consistency for your guacamole.
  • Add the chopped red onion and tomato.
  • Add the lime juice, taco seasoning and salt to the bowl.
  • Use a fork to fold the ingredients into the avocado, mashing everything together a little more until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Guacamole is best served fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
