10 Unique Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is coming up, do you like to celebrate?! Let us first say, Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about celebrating love with a partner. It’s about love in general; self-love, friendship love, partner love, family love. The list goes on. I for one always refused to make Valentine’s Day just about couples. I spent the majority of my early adulthood single and honestly, I still loved celebrating Valentine’s Day! So let us ask you, how do you plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year?

Valentine’s Day is just another fun day to dress up and feel cute, eat some chocolate and buy yourself flowers, if you want! Sure, it’s also nice to plan something with a partner, go out for dinner or have a cozy night in. But we don’t want you to feel like you have to feel frustrated or hostile, if you don’t have a date. That is not what February 14th is about! And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

So in today’s post, we’re going to break down 10 unique ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day. No matter your status! Let’s just have some fun and celebrate life.❤️ 🙃

I spent the majority of my early adulthood single and honestly, I still loved celebrating Valentine’s Day!

1. Host a Galentine’s evening

Ok this one can be really fun. Hosting a Galentine’s evening can be done on Feb 14th or on an evening close to. Host a gal’s night at your home and ask everyone to bring a treat of choice. Invite your friends over for a movie night with some wine and candles. Go out for dinner to your favourite restaurant, the options are endless! I personally love getting my gals together around this time as it’s a nice way to break up the winter blues. It doesn’t even have to be Valentine’s related, it’s just a fun excuse to get everyone together in the peak of winter. 2. Spend a Cozy Night In

Spending a cozy night in may be one of the more traditional ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, aside from going out to dinner I suppose. This is a very low maintenance way to celebrate love with your loved ones. Put on your favourite movie, buy your favourite snacks and get comfy. If you want to make things interesting, build out a big cozy blanket fort in your living room and have some fun with the evening! Switch it up from your usual routine. Whether that being how you watch the movie, or by ordering in some of your favourite food, there are lots of fun ways to make the night interesting and oh so cozy.✨✨

3. Take a Fun Dance Class!

Ok this one is a total switch up. Have you ever taken a dance class with someone you love?! We haven’t, but we think it could be a pretty unique and fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. All you have to do, is Google “dance classes in ____” (wherever you live), and some options will pop up. You’ll want to find a studio that allows for drop-ins, or find a place that targets adults looking to learn a new hobby.

You could try swing lessons, ball-room, latin, the options are endless! Or if you’re solo, or want to try something with a friend, you could hit-up a Zumba class, you could try pole dancing for something a bit sexier, a hip-hop class or even try line-dancing! Taking a dance class is a great way to get out and share some laughs with someone you love.

4. Enjoy a Paint Night Out

Paint nights have become all the rage lately. I feel like I see them pop up everywhere in the city I live in. You show up, are given a canvas and paint and off you go! There’s an instructor there to walk you through the process and provide inspiration and guidance. So if you’ve never painted before, not to worry! It’s just a fun way to get out of the house and try a new activity. Oh and you may find out that you’re secretly a very talented artist!

5. Go for a Massage

This one is a no-brainer. If you’re looking to treat yourself to some relaxation this Valentine’s Day, go for a massage! You can try a couples massage, or simply go for one solo. Both are great. A massage is the perfect way to unwind after a long day. It’s also a treat to relieve any built up stress in your body. You can find a spa to do this, or even go to a local physio clinic nearby. But if you’re looking for something a little more elevated and want to do something as a couple, I’d opt for the spa setting!

6. Find a local hydrotherapy spa

Have you ever tried hydrotherapy? It’s such a relaxing experience. Hydrotherapy spas give you access to hot and cold pools, saunas and steam rooms. It’s a total relaxation moment. This sort of treatment is not only good for relaxation, but submerging your body in hot and then cold water, can be really beneficial for your health! It can help with focus, energy, and give your metabolism a boost. Of course the ideal scenario is to do this weekly, but it’s a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day as well!

I took my partner to a hydrotherapy spa once, and we had the best time! It’s a great way to unplug together and spend some quiet time relaxing and connecting.

7. Go Mini putting or Try a Fun Arcade

Ok this one could be super fun! Have you ever gone on an old-school date and mini-putted at a local course? Go back to your teenage years and have some fun playing! You can find mini-putting courses pretty easily, or opt for an arcade! Every city seems to have them now. This is a great way to get out, challenge your loved ones to some competition and share some laughs! It’s a date night you’ll remember for a long time, we promise!

8. Plan an adventure you’ve never experienced before

This one is a wild card. You choose! Maybe it’s a road-trip to a new town, perhaps it’s going to a local art museum. Or maybe you want to hit the slopes one day! Just get out of the house and plan an adventure with someone you love. The winter (in Canada) can be long. And what better way to break up the winter, than by planning a new adventure. Valentine’s Day is just an excuse to do it. 🥳

9. Practice solo-self care

We love a solo-self care day. This could look different for every person, so you choose what sounds the most relaxing for your personal taste. If we were going to plan the ultimate solo-self care evening, it would involve a hot drawn bath with some bath salts, a face mask, a cup of tea and a good book. Perhaps we’d add in some journalling and a movie to top off the night. Nothing beats some quiet solo time, whether or celebrate valentines day, or just because!

10. Go get your nails done

Ok this one is another solo self-care date. Or perhaps you plan a date with your partner or besties. Getting your nails done with friends can be fun! Some nail salons even offer bubbly to go along with the treatment. It’s a whole experience! Especially if getting your nails done isn’t a regular occurrence for you, this can be a nice way to treat yourself for Valentine’s Day. I personally love getting some girly pink in February. It just brightens up my month!
