Our routines are what keeps us feeling our best, mentally, physically and spiritually. Sometimes we find ourselves loosing momentum and I don’t know about you but personally, when I fall off track, I feel it. HARD! Today’s blog is focused on how to get your life together, a full guide and checklist, when you need that extra help.
When you find yourself feeling unmotivated or sluggish, it’s often because you’ve lost connection with yourself. If you don’t feel aligned with yourself, it’s harder to focus on your goals and habits. Don’t beat yourself up for being in a slump or feeling unmotivated. Society already makes us feel like resting or slowing down is bad, leading so many people to burn out. Instead, let’s focus on simple steps we can do to start feeling better and more energized.
5 Step Guide to Get Your Life Together:

“Today’s blog is focused on how to get your life together, a full guide and checklist, when you need that extra help.”

1. Acceptance + Compassion
The first step to getting out of a slump is meeting yourself where you are. Accept that you aren’t your best self right now, and that is totally fine! You are taking action to get back on track now, which is the first step. Focus on moving forward by embracing love and compassion for yourself during each of the following steps. Be nicer to yourself and give yourself more credit. Be mindful of how you speak to yourself, what does your inner dialogue sound like? Is it negative and unsupportive? Are you extremely hard on yourself? It’s time to swap out the negative self talk for more support and positive language! This step is important as it lays the foundation for everything else, because coming into this process to get your life back on track is going to be very hard when you approach the process with resistance and self criticism.
2. Release
MOVE. SWEAT IT OUT. Let’s release feelings of overwhelm. When you’re feeling stuck or in a rut, moving your body can help release that stagnant energy from your body. Exercise can clear your mind when you are working your way out of a slump by getting energy flowing so you can release it and leave it behind. Go for a walk, stretch your body, or get in a solid workout (though I recommend listening to your body; workout intuitively). It doesn’t matter how long you exercise for, or what you do, the feel good hormones released from your body will help you feel more refreshed.

3. Set a Self Care Timer
Set a timer for 45 minutes (longer if time allows you to!) and put your phone away. Use this time to detox from your tech. Put some music on, take a long shower, or a bath, wash your hair and do some skin care. Take some time to do anything that will make yourself feel refreshed. When we feel great, we present ourselves to the world with more confidence! This in turn, helps lift our spirits. Be mindful and make sure to schedule in self care daily and/or weekly, especially while coming out a rut.
- Detox From Tech: Take this time to put your phone away and enjoy some you-time without distractions.
- Pamper Yourself: Do a face mask, exfoliate, draw a bubble bath, and wash your hair! Take some time to do a few extra steps to feel refreshed.
- Mini Makeover: If you are craving change, chop your hair, try a new lipstick colour, or a new nail polish colour. Find something new that will make you feel your best. Small changes can make a big impact!
4. Reflection + Journalling
It’s time to be raw and real with yourself. Ask yourself how you are feeling. Write down how you are currently feeling on one side of your journal. Sit with that and acknowledge those thoughts. Now, draw a line down the middle and on the other side of your journal, write down how you want to feel instead. Once you are clear on how you WANT to feel, you can move forward with action. This would be a good time to also practice a grounding mediation to align yourself to your new desired energy.
Journal prompts:
- What have you been struggling with lately?
- What can you do today to support yourself in feeling the way you want to feel?
- What would happen if you gave yourself permission to go after your dreams and desired lifestyle?
- What are 3 things you are grateful for?
- How can you show yourself more compassion and understanding?
More Journal Prompts
If journaling and meditation are not your thing, instead you could flow through a slow mindful yoga session or focus on taking some deep belly breaths while reflecting on how you are feeling and be mindful of how you want to feel.

5. Re-Connect with your Goals
Now that you have taken some time for movement, self care and reflection, you are likely in a more supportive and energetic head space. Now it’s time to create an intentional game plan. Review your goals (or set new goals), then break your goals down into smaller, short term goals. This makes your goals more achievable and less stressful, but it’s also better for your brain because of the dopamine hit that is associated with reward and accomplishment. Creating a plan takes out the guess work and overwhelm. If you want more details on setting goals, check out this blog post!
Ways to Reconnect with your Goals:
- Create a vision board, make it your wallpaper on your phone and computer
- Put your goals somewhere you can see or read them everyday
- Energy is contagious, connect and network with like minded people
- Don’t forget to rest and have fun while working towards your goals
- Establish mindful morning and evening routines
Create Mindful, Intentional Routines:
Morning Rituals
- Greet the Day: A simple stretch or walk can make you feel fresh heading into the day.
- Fuel Yourself: Don’t skip out on breakfast, a nourishing meal to start the day is important.
- Mindful Moments: Set aside some extra time to read, enjoy your coffee or tea in silence, or even connect with a friend or family member. Something to make you feel good before heading into your day.
Evening Rituals
- Tech Detox: Hit that DNB button and tuck that phone away! After a long day, it’s easy to feel burnt out and exhausted, which means you may want to reach for your phone to zone out, but you end up scrolling the evening away. Stepping away from your tech in the evening, especially before bed, is important for your eyes and it will help you decompress.
- Skin Care +Self Care: Take a bath or shower and do your skincare, it can do wonders to help you feel relaxed in the evening.
- Ease into Bedtime: Play some soft music, read some pages of your book, or brew a calming tea, find a ritual that helps ease you into a peaceful state of mind to help you fall asleep.
