We’ve all been there… life gets busy, your schedule shifts, and before you know it, the habits that once felt second nature -like morning movement, nourishing meals, journaling, or simply staying hydrated, start to slip.
I’ve personally struggled a lot with the all-or-nothing mentality and it’s something I am always trying to work on. But I’ve learned you don’t need to beat yourself up about falling off track. The truth is, you’re allowed to begin again. Getting back into your healthy habits doesn’t have to feel overwhelming or rigid, it can be slow, intentional, and even enjoyable. Here’s how to gently reset your routine and reconnect with the habits that help you feel your best, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Start with Self-Reflection
Before jumping back into “doing,” take a pause to check in with yourself. Ask:
- Why did I fall off track?
- What was I needing during that time?
- Which habits truly support the version of me I want to feel like?
Journaling is a great tool for this. It can help clear your mind, reduce stress, and give you clarity on what habits you actually want to return to (and which ones you might not miss at all). Need some guidance? → Check out 13 Journal Prompts for a Powerful Mental Reset
Choose Tools That Support You
Getting back into healthy habits is easier when you have tools that make it feel good. Think of them as your support systems, not more pressure.
Some ideas:
- A journal or digital notes app to track how you feel each day
- A wellness planner or habit tracker (I use HabitKit app as my habit tracker, I started using it in January and haven’t looked back!)
- A go-to playlist for movement or calm
- Reusable water bottle you actually like carrying around
- A cozy corner with candles, books, and blankets for slower moments
Keep your tools visible and easy to reach, out of sight means out of mind!

Start Small (Like, Really Small)
Trying to overhaul everything at once is the fastest way to burn out. Instead, focus on just 1-2 simple habits to begin with.
- Drinking a full glass of water before your coffee
- Doing 5-10 minutes of stretching or movement each day
- Workout a few times a week
- Journaling for 5 minutes every night
- Adding more veggies to your lunch or dinner
- Put your phone away 30 minutes before bed
Once you nail your first few habits, you can grow from there!
Anchor Your Habits to Existing Routines
If you’re struggling to remember to incorporate your new habits, try habit stacking by pairing them with something you already do every day. For example:
- Stretch while your coffee brews
- Journal right after brushing your teeth
- Drink water before checking your phone
- Take a walk after lunch each day
This makes it easier to stay consistent without adding pressure.
REMINDER: You’re not behind, and you haven’t failed. Falling off your routine is part of being human. What matters is how gently and intentionally you choose to return to yourself. So take a breath. Choose one small thing. And begin again. You’ve got this. 💛
Make It Enjoyable Again
This one’s important, living a healthy and mindful life matters, but it should also feel good. The benefits help us feel our best, but when we’re in a slump, it’s easy to forget that our habits can actually be enjoyable.
Ask yourself: How can I make this fun again?
Ideas:
- Try a new workout class or go for a walk somewhere new
- Create a recipe or do a fitness challenge with a friend
- Use cute sticky notes or washi tape in your planner as a fun reminder
- Reward yourself with something small after a habit streak

We all go through different seasons of how our habits look. Some months may feel better than others, and that’s ok. Just try to look at your healthy habits as a way to show up as your best self. Make your habits clear, why are you choosing to stick to those particular habits? What makes you feel great, when consistently sticking to those habits? One way to stay more consistent is through habit stacking. If you’d like to learn more, check out one of our favourite books, Atomic Habits. There are many tools you can learn, to stay consistent.
