Life can be stressful, it’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of everyday life. One way to combat this stress is through journaling. Writing down your thoughts and feelings can help you process them and gain perspective. In this post, we’ll discuss some journal prompts that can help calm your mind and bring a sense of peace to your day.

Journalling may not come easy to you, and that’s ok! We have found that we often go through phases of journalling, there’s no set rule. But these journal prompts may help you in finding some inspiration as to what you want to write about, or even just get your writing juices flowing. Journalling can be a great way to get your racing mind on paper and help your body feel more relaxed and less anxious overall.

What is something you’re grateful for today? Why?

One of the best ways to calm your mind is to focus on gratitude. Take a moment to reflect on something you’re grateful for today, and write about why it brings you joy. It could be something as simple as a hot cup of coffee, or a friend who always knows how to make you laugh. By focusing on the positive things in our lives, we can shift our mindset and reduce stress. Something we enjoy doing is setting some time aside in the morning to write down three things we’re grateful for, it’s a way to start the day in a positive headspace.

What is a challenge you’ve overcome recently? How did you do it?

Reflecting on challenges we’ve overcome can also help calm our minds. Think about a difficult situation you faced recently, and write about how you were able to overcome it. Recognizing our own strengths and resilience can help us feel more confident and capable in the face of future challenges. This could be a challenge at work, a challenge with friends or family or even just something physical you’ve been wanting to overcome. Take some time to be proud of yourself!

Describe your current emotion in one word, then explain that feeling.

Without using the word ‘anxious’, describe your current emotion with one word. Explain how you feel that emotion is manifesting in your mind and body. Take a moment to pause, look inward. Sometimes focusing on our emotions can bring up new feelings, this may strike something new in us, possibly challenging feelings. That’s why journalling can be so therapeutic, it can help us work through those emotions by getting them out of our minds and onto paper.

What do I need to forgive myself for?

We are often our own biggest critics and negative self-talk can be a major source of stress. Take a moment to reflect on what you need to forgive yourself for and write about letting go of those thoughts. By forgiving ourselves, we can move forward and focus on the present moment.

Make a to-do list.

In today’s society, our never ending to-dos seem to pile up and can cause extra stress on our lives. Rid your mind of the anxious to-dos that often cloud our brains, get them out of your mind and onto paper. Your to-do list doesn’t need to be fancy, just brain dump anything and everything and feel that satisfaction of crossing off one task at a time!

Make an actionable list of things that help calm your anxious thoughts.

We all have them, anxious thoughts can be overwhelming and put a real damper on our day. But how about you look at it from a proactive stand point? What are some actionable ways to combat your anxiety? For example; going for a walk, having a dance party, seeing a friend, hugging someone, going to the gym. All are potential ways to feel less stressed and anxious and more in line with positivity and peace.
